Cardinal Tetra

The Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi) is a stunning freshwater fish, known for its brilliant neon blue stripe running across its body, paired with a deep red lower half.

Native to the blackwater rivers of South America, this species is a favourite among aquarists for its striking coloration, peaceful nature, and lively schooling behaviour.

Unlike its close relative, the Neon Tetra, the Cardinal Tetra features a more intense and full-body red stripe, making it even more eye-catching in a planted aquarium.

Best kept in schools of six or more, they thrive in soft, slightly acidic water with dim lighting and dense plant cover, mimicking their natural Amazonian habitat.
