The Gold Panchax (Aplocheilus lineatus), also known as the Golden Wonder Killifish, is a beautiful and hardy freshwater species that adds vibrant golden hues to any aquarium.
Known for their active and surface-dwelling behavior, these killifish are ideal for medium to large tanks with plenty of swimming space. They are peaceful but may prey on smaller fish, making them best suited for tanks with similarly sized tank mates.
Key Features:
•Striking Colouration: Golden yellow body with iridescent highlights that catch the light beautifully.
•Active Swimmers: Prefer the upper levels of the tank, adding dynamic movement to your aquarium.
•Hardy and Adaptable: Tolerates a range of water conditions, making them beginner-friendly.
•Semi-Aggressive: Best kept with similarly sized tank mates to avoid predation on smaller fish.
Care Requirements:
•Tank Size: Minimum 75 litres for a small group.
•Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 22–28°C, soft to moderately hard water.
•Diet: Carnivorous; gold panchax eat live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia, as well as high-quality pellets or flakes.
•Tank Mates: Compatible with peaceful fish of similar size, such as tetras, rasboras, or dwarf gouramis. Avoid housing with small or slow-moving fish.
•Tank Setup: Provide a well-covered tank to prevent jumping, with floating plants for cover and subdued lighting to mimic their natural habitat.
Breeding Tips:
Gold Panchax are egg scatterers and can spawn in densely planted areas or spawning mops. Separate eggs into a rearing tank to protect them from being eaten. Eggs hatch in 10–14 days, and fry can be fed infusoria or finely crushed flakes.
