Kribensis

The Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher), also known as the Rainbow Cichlid or Krib, is a stunning freshwater fish known for its vibrant colours and peaceful temperament. With its striking mix of red, yellow, and purple hues, this medium-sized cichlid is an excellent choice for community aquariums. Kribensis are hardy, easy to care for, and display fascinating behaviors, especially during breeding, making them a favorite among aquarists of all experience levels.

Care Requirements:

•Tank Size: Minimum 60 litres for a pair; larger tanks for groups.

•Water Parameters: pH 6.5–7.5, temperature 24–28°C, soft to moderately hard water.

•Diet: Omnivorous; feed high-quality flakes, pellets, live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter.

•Tank Setup: Provide a sandy substrate, caves, and plenty of hiding spaces using driftwood and plants. Ensure open swimming areas.

•Tank Mates: Suitable with peaceful fish such as tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and small rainbowfish. Avoid housing with aggressive or overly territorial species.

Breeding Tips:

Kribensis are cave spawners and exhibit strong parental care. Provide multiple caves or pots for spawning. During breeding, the female’s belly becomes bright red, and both parents will fiercely guard the eggs and fry.
